About Phil
I live in the great city of Toronto. I'm married to Betty and am pretty blissed to be called "Dad" by Owen and Lily. I'm a pastor and missional leader, having served churches in three Canadian cities (Vancouver, Calgary and Toronto). And I love words and create things with words - I've written in a variety of publications and authored the best-selling prayer-book (now really, who would've expected "best-selling" and "prayer book" in the same sentence) Seeking God's Face.

I am convinced the Christian faith practices and spiritual disciplines are so central to shaping a lively and resilient faith in Jesus. My side-hustle is to lead a collective of redemptive communities living out a common rule of life of these Jesus practices - you can check out what were doing at www.habituscommunity.org. I drink too much coffee and love adventures in the city or in the mountains (whenever I can get there). I love the moment it clicks in photography and the slow, meditative process of baking sourdough bread (my family mocks me for my devotion to my sourdough starter).

I love learning and have used various degree programs as an excuse to remain a student - I'm a graduate of Acadia University (DMin), Regent College (ThM), Calvin Theological Seminary (MDiv), and Calvin College (BA).

Thanks for visiting my site, a place to share my thoughts on Christianity, mission, ministry, culture, and the Bible, and anything else that captures my interest.
